I successfully completed the Bachelor of Civil Law in Law and Business at Maynooth University. During my third year of university, I applied for a placement with William Fry and gained a position in the firm’s market-leading Technology department.
Throughout my placement I had exposure to a vast array of interesting legal issues. I partook in all of the learning and development sessions that were offered to the trainees. This not only gave me a great insight into the life of a trainee but also aided my learning. I always felt like an active, important member of the team and that my contributions were heard and valued.
I was delighted to accept the offer of a training contract with William Fry after successfully completing my university placement. After graduating from my degree I focused on completing the eight FE1s required by the Law Society.
My 8 month pre-seat in the Corporate department was enlightening on both a professional and personal level. I have been fortunate to work with an innovative and fast-moving team on Irish and international transactions. The level of responsibility I was given epitomises William Fry’s commitment to professional development at all levels of the firm. I was fortunate to have regularly engaged with clients and I relished this opportunity to assist and develop my personal network.
The workplace culture in William Fry has been central to my positive experience throughout both my internship and traineeship. Some key examples of this are the open-door policy, meaning an opportunity to learn is never missed along with the buddy system where new joiners are assigned a trainee buddy for support and guidance. My colleagues have always been approachable, eager to assist my learning and generous with their time and support – even during the busiest of times! As a result, I not only have colleagues within the firm but have made some great friends along the way.
William Fry is committed to promoting a healthy work life balance. Facilities provided include the on-site 24 hour gym, healthy eating initiatives and plenty of sports clubs. The firm regularly organises social events including our recent 175 celebration, Christmas party, the Calcutta run.
I had high aspirations for my traineeship. These aspirations have all been surpassed and I look forward to a long and happy career at William Fry.
