National Cyber Security Centre to be Established
A national centre will be established for the prevention of cyberattacks

The Irish Government is to establish the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) which will lead the national response to cyberattacks.

In response to the increased risk of cyber-criminals, the NCSC will build on the existing Computer Security Incident Response Team, established in late 2011. The establishment of the NCSC was a recommendation included in the National Cyber Security Strategy, published in 2015.

The NCSC will sit within the remit of the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources and will be responsible for three primary areas: personal and business systems; government networks; and the protection of critical national infrastructure.

It is reported that the NCSC will be located on the UCD campus.
