Brian is a Partner with William Fry Tax/Taxand Ireland. He has over fifteen years' experience advising clients in tax litigation and controversy matters, tax structuring, inward investment, tax aspects of mergers and acquisitions transactions, real estate tax transactions and personal taxation matters.  He provides taxation advice to a broad base of clients in various business sectors, including insurance, hotels and tourism, mobile telecommunications, venture capital groups, radio and television, private equity and hedge funds.

His recent significant transactions include advising:

  • the sellers on Irish tax aspects of the sale of their interests in Omega Pharma Invest NV to Perrigo Company plc
  • Guerbet SA on its acquisition of Mallinckrodt Ireland Limited from Mallinckrodt International Finance SA which was part of Guerbet SA’s acquisition of Mallinckrodt plc’s worldwide contrast media and delivery systems business
  • the purchasers on the acquisition of the Castlemartyr Resort, Co. Cork
  • the seller on tax aspects of the sale of its interests in Topaz Energy Group Limited, Topaz Bull Fuels Limited and Resource Property Investment Funds plc to Canadian retailer Alimentation Couche-Tard
  • the seller on tax aspects on the sale of its interests in Redbrook Ingredient Services Limited to Frutarom
  • clients in tax litigation matters, preparation of cases before the Appeal Commissioners, TAC, Circuit Court and High Court.

Brian is a member of the Law Society of Ireland, the Dublin Solicitors Bar Association and the Irish Taxation Institute and has contributed to many publications.

Brian has been listed as one of Ireland's 'Tax Controversy Leaders' by the International Tax Review in 2015, 2016 and 2017. He was also listed a 'Notable and Trusted' Tax Controversy Leader in Ireland by the International Tax Review 2015.
