Paul Murray is a Partner in William Fry’s Asset Management & Investment Funds Department, specialising in the establishment and operation of all types of collective investment vehicles.

Paul advises a wide variety of clients on regulatory and structural issues associated with the establishment and management of investment funds in Ireland. He has significant experience in advising both Alternative Investment Funds and UCITS (using both traditional and alternative strategies) as well as advising on the authorisation of UCITS and alternative investment fund managers (AIFMs).  Paul advises on the establishment and restructuring of financial services firms and his clients include investment managers, credit institutions, brokers and other financial intermediaries/service providers.

Recently significant transactions include advising:

  • on the establishment of a large suite of fund-of-funds and multi-manager funds.  Recently secured extensions to the manager's Central Bank authorisation, to include acting as an AIFM and providing individual portfolio management services in the context of a significant expansion of the manager's Dublin office and service offering.
  • the trustees of the pension scheme of a FTSE100 company on a significant investment in a complex infrastructure fund with an innovative, commitment-based funding structure.  The mandate involved the negotiation of fund terms and advising on cross-border regulatory issues.
  • on the establishment of an innovative secured notes programme whereby notes are secured on underlying debt securities and cash flow timing agreements are put in place to align cashflows received on those securities with the timing of payments of scheduled payments of interest and other payment obligations for each series of notes issued under the programme.
  • on the creation of the single settlement model permitting settlement of ETFs within the international central securities depositary (ICSD) system for the first time and the conversion of the first ETFs to use this new settlement model.
