Real Estate (NUIG, BCL (International))

I studied Bachelor of Civil Law International with German at NUIG and was fortunate enough to study at both Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg in Germany and Suffolk University Boston. Having studied abroad and also working after graduation as an Assistant for Economic and Consular Affairs in the Embassy of Ireland Berlin, I was eager to train in a firm where I would have the opportunity to work with international clients on multi-national transactions.

My exposure to William Fry was through the Internship programme as part of the Technology team. During my Internship I had the opportunity to assist on a high profile case involving one of the world's largest technology companies. I got a real buzz when the case I was involved in featured in national papers and this only cemented my desire to train in a leading commercial firm like William Fry. Throughout my Internship I was very impressed by the open-door policy in the office and the emphasis the Firm placed on learning and development.  Needless to say when I was offered a training contract at the end of my Internship I did not hesitate to accept!

I am now a Trainee in the Real Estate Department where I work on a busy team specialising in retail and office leasing for landlords and tenants. The work is very fast-paced and as such I enjoy a high level of responsibility. Every day is different with tasks varying from drafting deeds to liaising with clients and other Solicitors in order to progress pre-lease and post-completion matters. In only a short time I feel I have learnt so much from the other members on my team who are always very generous with their time explaining not only the "law" behind a transaction but also the commercial rationale underpinning the advice we give our clients. Asking questions is encouraged and it ensures that as a Trainee you gain invaluable experience from both mentors and peers.

A good work-life balance is at the core of William Fry and the Firm organises lots of great events throughout the year including the annual Trainee qualification dinner, the Trainee weekend away, the Christmas party and the summer barbeque. CSR is strongly encouraged with plenty of opportunities for Trainees to get involved from dress down days to charity fun runs such as the Calcutta Run, an event I participated in earlier this year. In addition there are regular health and well-being seminars and fundraising activities scheduled throughout the year. Through these events and others I have made some really good friends in William Fry which has made my experience of working here all the better.

I look forward to the challenges and opportunities which lie ahead as a Trainee Solicitor in one of the country's leading commercial law Firms.
