William Fry’s College Placement Programme offers students a unique opportunity to gain long-term, practical experience in a top-tier corporate law firm.

Designed for students undertaking formal college placements, the programme runs for 6 to 9 months, depending on your college. From day one, you’ll be a valued member of the team, with the opportunity to contribute to real work, build your skills and see how your work supports clients and colleagues. You’ll be embedded in a department, gaining first-hand experience of professional life at William Fry and contributing to real client matters and internal initiatives. It’s an opportunity to develop your perspective, see how the quality of our thinking shapes the work we do, show us your talents, and start building a career in law.

Hands-on experience

From day one, you’ll receive a comprehensive introduction to our systems, culture and our ways of working, and you’ll have a Partner mentor to support you throughout your placement. This gives you the opportunity to get involved in your team’s work while knowing there is support there when you need it. Placement students are fully embedded within their assigned departments and treated as valued members of the team.

Professional development

Your development is supported through a structured feedback process, including a mid-placement review and an end-of-placement review. These conversations recognise your progress, highlight your achievements and identify areas for further growth. For high-performing students, the process can also inform decisions around potential traineeship offers.

Networking and life at William Fry

Your placement is about more than the work you do each day. You’ll be invited to firm-wide social events, including networking events, seasonal celebrations, alongside regular activities organised specifically for placement students. It’s a chance to build relationships with your peers and colleagues across the firm and experience the supportive, social side of life at William Fry.

Throughout your placement, you’ll contribute to your team, develop your skills and gain a broader perspective on life at the firm. You’ll build practical experience, grow your confidence and discover where a career at William Fry could take you.
