Eoin Caufield is a Partner and Head of our Insurance Department. Eoin joined the Firm in 1995. His practice involves a combination of insurance and reinsurance work, both on the non-life and life side, together with a general corporate and financial services client base.

Eoin Caulfield

Eoin is a member of the Insurance Institute of Ireland and the British Insurance Law Association. He is a former committee member of the International Bar Association Insurance Committee. Recent speaking involvements include Financial Services Ireland; Insurance Ireland and the European Insurance Forum. In addition to his legal qualifications he holds an MBS (Financial Services) and an affiliation to the Society of Actuaries in Ireland.

Recent significant transactions include advising:

  • Catalina on the sale of Catalina Insurance Ireland to Riverstone International
  • Phoenix Group on the acquisition of Standard Life Aberdeen’s Irish insurance business
  • Athora on its acquisition of Aegon Ireland
  • Banco Santander on its sale to CNP Assurance of a majority interest in its Irish cross-border insurance subsidiaries
  • Allied World, AXA, Markel, Catalina, SCOR, AXIS, Swiss Re and various others on Court sanctioned mergers, portfolio transfers and other cross-border schemes
  • Fidelity Worldwide Investment (FIL), Santander Insurance and Chaucer on the authorisation of Irish insurers and various international groups on cross-border intermediary authorisations
  • Clients on matters including Solvency II outsourcing, enforcement actions, own funds/capital, Brexit contingency planning and structured transactions (pension de-risking, collateral and portfolio transfers)
