Nigel is a Managing Associate in our Asset Management & Investment Funds department.

Nigel Crowe

Nigel specialises in advising clients on regulatory and structural issues associated with the establishment, authorisation and ongoing management of private alternative fund structures (both closed-ended and open-ended) across multiple strategies including hedge funds, credit, private equity and venture capital. He has experience of working with both fund sponsors and institutional investors on fund formation, private fund investments, separate account arrangements, secondaries, co-investment arrangements and AIFMD compliance issues.

Nigel trained in the London office of an international law firm, including six months in New York with its Private Funds team. He later worked in another leading London practice advising a broad range of alternative asset managers. He also brings significant in‑house experience, most recently serving as a senior lawyer in London with a global outsourced investment office.

Nigel’s work (including work undertaken prior to joining William Fry) includes advising:

  • a state backed institutional investor in relation to its cornerstone commitment to an Irish infrastructure fund.
  • a global asset manager on the establishment of an umbrella fund engaging in a range of strategies including alternative credit strategies.
  • institutional investors and family offices on making large investments into private funds or SMAs..
  • a global asset manager on the formation and operation of a new hedge fund.
  • a global asset manager on a strategic minority investment by a third-party investor.
  • a global asset manager on the launch, fundraising and maintenance of new and existing alternative investment funds and managed accounts including both open and closed-ended funds including on a QIAIF platform covering a range of strategies including real estate and private credit.
  • Astorg on the formation of Astorg VII, a €4.2 billion private equity fund.
  • Triton on the formation of multiple funds, namely, Triton V, a €5 billion private equity fund, and Triton Smaller Mid-Cap Fund I, a €448 million smaller mid cap buyout fund.
  • EQT on the formation of multiple funds including EQT VIII, a €10.9 billion private equity fund.
  • CVC Capital Partners on the formation of CVC VII, a €15.5 billion private equity fund.
  • Affinity on the formation of Affinity Asia Pacific Fund V, a $6 billion Asia-focused private equity fund.

Nigel holds a Bachelor of Corporate Law and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Galway and a Master of Law (LLM) from the University of Cambridge. He is also on the roll of Solicitors for England and Wales.
