The Central Bank announced on 21 October that the deadline for receipt of applications for authorisation as an AIFM is 21 February 2014. This is the latest date for receipt of applications to ensure authorisation is obtained by July 2014. This deadline applies also to internally managed alternative investment funds and to those applicants whose assets under management are below the threshold set out in AIFMD and wish to be approved as registered AIFMs.
The announcement of the deadline comes after the Central Bank had written to alternative managers in September to ascertain whether they were likely to apply for authorisation under AIFMD and follows a similar move by the Financial Conduct Authority in the UK which has informed managers to apply no later than 22 January 2014 to ensure they are approved before July next year.
