In Short - EIOPA Updates

In June 2012, EIOPA released its first set of guidelines with a view to establishing consistent, efficient and effective supervisory practices, and ensuring common, uniform and consistent application of EU law.  This first set of guidelines relates to insurer’s handling of complaints.

In relation to Solvency II, EIOPA has released the following papers:

  • On 7 May 2012, it published an opinion on external models/data used for the calculation of Solvency II capital requirements
  • On 10 July 2012, it published its final report on proposals for reporting and disclosure requirements for insurance and reinsurance undertakings and insurance groups
  • On 12 July 2012, it published its final report on draft guidelines for own risk and solvency Assessments (commonly referred to as ORSAs)

The Joint Committee of the three European Supervisory Authorities (of which EIOPA is a member) has published a Protocol for Supervisory Cooperation in the field of anti-money laundering (AML). The protocol is aimed at facilitating the cross-border exchange of information between national supervisors overseeing agents and branches of payment institutions and coordination amongst AML supervisors.

The Joint Committee has also published a consultation paper on its proposed response to the European Commission’s Call for Advice on the Fundamental Review of the Financial Conglomerates Directive.
