Welcome to the November issue of our Legal News.
As Ireland’s economy strengthens and we continue to meet objectives set out in the EU/IMF Programme for Financial Support, William Fry takes a look at some recent legislative measures taken by the Irish Government as part of the EU/IMF package. These measures include the:
- Competition Amendment Bill 2011;
- Central Bank (Supervision and Enforcement) Bill 2011; and
- Commencement of personal bankruptcy provisions.
Other articles include details of a recent High Court judgment which confirms the need for business people to ensure that proper legal and tax structures are put in place before proceeding with a business deal. We also report on the need for members of a corporate group to ensure they are protected from the liabilities of other group companies and consider a relevant UK High Court decision.
As social networking sites such as Facebook continue to grow in popularity, we consider possible challenges faced by such companies, in particular the data protection issues surrounding Facebook’s “Like” button.
