Finance Committee to scrutinise Draft Tax Appeals Bill

The Bill sets out to reform the functions and structure of the Office of the Appeal Commissioners who hear appeals against tax assessments and determinations by the Revenue Commissioners.

Officials from the Department of Finance will be in attendance for the first session. Brian Keegan of the Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies – Ireland; Cora O’Brien of the Irish Tax Institute, and Brian Duffy, William Fry Tax/Tax Ireland will engage with the Committee for the second session.

Committee Chairman Dr Liam Twomey TD said: “The Finance (Tax Appeals Commission) Bill is an important piece of draft legislation which sets out to reform the Office of the Appeal Commissioners, which is responsible for the hearing of appeals by taxpayers against decisions of the Revenue Commissioners. The Minister for Finance Michael Noonan TD has asked this Committee examine the proposals as drafted in the Heads of the Bill. Tomorrow, we are looking forward to hearing Department of Finance Officials and key stakeholders as part of our pre-legislative scrutiny of the draft legislation.”

This meeting takes place at 2 pm on Tuesday 27 January in Committee Room 1, LH 2000.
