Personnel changes at the Competition Authority

There have been several recent changes at senior levels of the Authority. Two Members resigned in 2010 and Member and the former head of the Mergers Division, Dr. Stanley Wong, left earlier this year. In order to ensure that the Authority can take decisions, the Competition (Amendment) Act 2010 allows the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation to appoint temporary Members where a permanent vacancy exists. Three temporary members have been appointment under this legislation: Mr. Gerald FitzGerald (Head of the Cartels and Mergers Divisions), Ms. Isolde Goggin (Head of the Advocacy and Monopolies Divisions) and Mr. Ciarán Quigley (Head of Corporate Services).  Mr. Declan Purcell is acting as Chairperson on an interim basis.  Many of the one-year terms of appointment are about to expire.
