The draft legislation to establish the National Assets Management Agency (NAMA) was formally published by the Minister for Finance earlier this month. The draft NAMA Bill is widely seen as the single most important piece of financial legislation ever introduced in Ireland. NAMA is being established to acquire impaired property and development loans on the balance sheets of credit institutions of systemic importance to the Irish economy in exchange for governed issued or guaranteed bonds.
