Medical Practitioners (Amendment) Bill 2014

To amend the Medical Practitioners Act 2007 to provide for a requirement for registered medical practitioners to have medical indemnity insurance except in certain circumstances and to give effect to Article 4(2)(d) of Directive 2011/24/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 9 March 2011 on the application of patients’ rights in cross-border healthcare

Health (Miscellaneous Provisions) (No. 1) Bill


To amend the Medical Practitioners Act 2007, the Dental Act 1985, the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005, the Pharmacy Act 2007 and the Nurses and Midwives Act 2011, to provide for an appeal against minor sanctions and to give effect to EU Directive 2013/55 on professional qualifications

Health Act 2007 (Amendment) Bill


To extend HIQA's remit to include functions with regard to Medical Ionising Radiation Protection and a supervisory body function in respect of research ethics committees for clinical trials on medicinal products and medical devices

Health (Transport Support) Bill

To provide for a scheme to make individual payments as a contribution towards transport costs to people with severe disabilities who cannot access public transport


Patient Safety Licensing Bill

To provide for a mandatory system of licensing for public and private healthcare facilities


Health Information and Patient Safety Bill

To provide a legislative framework for the better governance of health information and initiatives including data matching and health information resources for use in the health service and support for clinical audit and patient safety notifications. It will also provide for the extension of HIQA's remit to private health service providers


Human Tissue Bill

To meet the key recommendation of the Madden Report that no hospital post-mortem may be carried out and no tissue retained after post-mortem without consent. It will also address other matters relating to human tissue including consent arrangements for transplantation and anatomical examination purposes


New Children’s Hospital Establishment Bill

To establish a statutory body to provide paediatric acute services in Dublin at the new children's hospital, taking over those services currently provided by Our Lady's Hospital Crumlin, Temple Street and the paediatric service at Tallaght Hospital. It will also make amendments relating to the functions of the National Paediatric Hospital Development Board (Establishment) Order

Public Health (Alcohol) Bill

To provide for minimum unit pricing for retailing of alcohol products, to regulate the marketing and advertising of alcohol, to regulate sports sponsorship, to provide for a structural separation of alcohol from other products and to provide for health labelling of alcohol products

Public Health (Retail Licensing of Tobacco Products) Bill

To introduce a licensing system and other measures in relation to the sale of tobacco products and non-medicinal nicotine delivery systems including e-cigarettes

To provide for revised risk equalisation credits and corresponding stamp duty levies on health insurance policies for 2016, and to make some technical amendments to the Health Insurance Acts 1994 – 2014

Assisted Human Reproduction Bill

To provide a legislative framework for the regulation of assisted human reproduction practices and associated research


Health & Wellbeing (Calorie Posting and Workplace Wellbeing) Bill

To provide for mandatory calorie-labelling in restaurants, takeaways and premises selling non pre-packaged foods and a legislative requirement on all public service organisations to have, and report on, a 'healthy workplace' policy in order to support an enabling workplace environment

Health (Miscellaneous Provisions) (No. 2) Bill

To provide that (i) payments made to women under the Lourdes Hospital Redress Scheme, the Lourdes Hospital Payment Scheme, the Surgical Symphysiotomy Payment Scheme and people receiving payments relating to disability caused by thalidomide, would not be taken into account in applications made under the Nursing Home Support Scheme (ii) to amend the Health (Pricing and Supply of Medical Goods) Act 2013 in order that certain medicinal products can continue to be reimbursed by the HSE under the GMS and Community Drugs Schemes (iii) to amend the Public Health (Standardised Packaging of Tobacco) Act 2015 to provide by way of regulations for a number of elements relating to the appearance of tobacco packaging and (iv) to amend the Health Act 2007 in relation to designated centres


Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Bill

To provide for the reform of the law relating to persons who require or may require assistance in exercising their decision-making capacity, whether immediately or in the future
