Compulsory registration of title in the Land Registry has now been extended to all counties in Ireland as of 1 June 2011 with the latest extension recently being made to the counties and cities of Dublin and Cork. 2010 saw the passing of the 10th anniversary of the first establishment of European ETFs. In a market where investors demand increasing transparency and liquidity, ETFs have continued to gain in popularity. 2010 saw a number of new entrants to the European ETF marketplace with a number of others indicating their intention to do so in 2011.

The European Court of Justice (ECJ) has provided guidance regarding when traders’ websites are considered to direct their activities to a country, resulting in the application of the consumer protection provisions of the Brussels Regulation (the Regulation).

Ireland boasts a high level of activity across a range of international financial services.  The reinsurance sector has been an area of particular growth helped in part by the country’s early implementation of the EU Reinsurance Directive in 2006.  Despite the downturn, levels of reinsurance business out of Ireland remain buoyant, with a number of recent new establishments.
