A proposed EU-wide Regulation is set to greatly expand the powers and protections afforded to IP rights holders when it comes to combatting counterfeit goods.
The draft Regulation:
- Proposes an extension to the range of goods and IP rights currently protected
- Clarifies the information that can be shared between various customs authorities in different EU member states
- Aims to introduce a procedure allowing for the automatic destruction of small consignments of counterfeit goods
It is hoped that these new measures will help combat the ever-increasing problem of counterfeit goods throughout the EU.
