Google is facing potential fines by six European data protection authorities looking to initiate enforcement measures over the company’s amalgamated privacy policy.

In March 2012, Google replaced its existing privacy policies with one policy encompassing all services. Data protection authorities in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands have united to take possible action against Google. This follows a number of attempts to encourage the company to amend its policy in line with recommendations. Google has stood in defence of its policy.

Developments are on-going but the impact of the investigations is likely to be significant.
