Asset Management & Investment Funds (UCD, BBLS & LLM)

A Business and Law Degree in UCD provided me with a great opportunity to explore a number of different fields of study and career paths and upon completion my interest in law was clear. I pursued a postgraduate degree (LLM) in UCD in Intellectual Property and Information Technology Law and chose to apply to William Fry to further pursue my interest in the field of Law.

I began my Traineeship with a rotation in Asset Management and Investment Funds. The quality of work I received was challenging, interesting and diverse and one of the major highlights of my Traineeship to date was assisting a Partner with the negotiation of an international distribution agreement for one of William Fry's high-profile clients. During my time working on the agreement I had invaluable direct interaction with the client and was given responsibility for a wide range of tasks. The conclusion of the project was incredibly satisfying as I got to see my hard work come to fruition first-hand when I attended a board meeting of the company at which the agreement was approved and executed. The level of responsibility and trust I was shown during my rotation demonstrates the value William Fry places on its Trainees and the Firm's commitment to exposing Trainees to a standard of work that can only be found in a top-tier law firm.

On my first day in the office I was introduced to a friendly face by way of an experienced Trainee who, as my buddy, helped me settle into life as a Trainee and introduced me to the rest of the Department. My buddy was also an important resource as regards providing guidance and answering my many questions. Since my initial start in the Firm I have had the opportunity to act as a buddy for a number of new Trainees and Interns which has empowered me to give back. All of the Trainees remember what our initial start was like and we want to help new members of our team feel comfortable in their new surroundings!

A commitment to mentoring and providing guidance to Trainees extends to every member of the William Fry team as the Firm operates on an open-door policy. It has been reassuring to know that this means I can seek guidance and advice at any time from those with more experience, from  Partner to Trainee level, my colleagues at William Fry have shown great generosity with their time and an enthusiasm for helping me understand complex legal issues and tasks. The feedback and advice you receive during your Traineeship in William Fry is instrumental in honing your skills as a lawyer.

The Learning and Development Department and Library teams provide training sessions which equip Trainees with the necessary foundations to work effectively in their departments and navigate the Firm's software. The software and facilities in the Firm are state of the art and Trainees have access to a vault of precedent documents and online databases. The Funds Department also deliver departmental training sessions on legal developments and existing regimes in order to provide Trainees with the necessary education to handle a wide variety of tasks and subject matter. These training sessions are recorded as podcasts offering a vast reservoir of information should you ever need to refresh your knowledge on a topic.

Social life in William Fry is fantastic and the Trainee Committee are always planning the next big social event. On the sporting side there are plenty of events to take part in and from tag-rugby to tennis there is always something that will catch your interest. The Firm's gym is also of great benefit and runs daily fitness classes with the added bonus of an on-site instructor!

For a comprehensive education that will prepare you for a successful career in law the only choice is a Traineeship in William Fry.
