Trinity College

I studied a Bachelor of Laws at Trinity College Dublin during which I applied to partake in the William Fry Summer Internship Programme.  Fortunately, my application was successful and I was assigned to a team within the Corporate department of the firm.  There, I had the privilege to work with not only brilliant lawyers, but kind and fun individuals who were passionate about ongoing success.  The level of service and commitment to clients was admirable and from day one I felt valued as a member of the William Fry community.  The diversity of people right across the firm also struck me. Different backgrounds bring various interests and perspectives to the table which is refreshing and another reason I knew this firm was an ideal fit for me.

My 8 month pre-PPC1 rotation in the Banking department was immensely enlightening from both a personal and professional perspective. I am grateful for the exposure I have had to fast paced commercial transactions, diligent and hardworking co-workers, demanding workloads and complex concepts.

It is apparent that training is a number one priority at William Fry, with structured programmes in place to ensure everyone has the chance to grow and reach their full potential. A great emphasis is placed on encouraging self-development and I have also been fortunate to work alongside colleagues who are generous with their time when providing guidance and explanations. The firm also operates a ‘buddy system’ whereby new joiners are assigned a trainee for support and guidance throughout their time here. I have been a ‘buddy’ to interns on many occasions and it was important to me that they had as realistic, encouraging and informative a placement as possible.  The sense of collaboration and community in the firm makes for a positive working environment and provides trainees with the opportunity to hone in on their skills and talents in order to shine as legal professionals.

The impact of William Fry extends beyond the office with the social committee organising events on a regular basis. These more informal occasions at William Fry are a fantastic way to get to know colleagues away from the confines of the corporate world. The Summer barbeque, children’s Christmas party and Calcutta run are but a few of the highlights of the social calendar that are not to be missed.
