Insurance (TCD, LL.B. (B.S.))

I studied Law and Business in Trinity College where I graduated in 2015. While I was always fairly certain that I wanted to be a Solicitor the dual degree allowed me to keep my options open while at the same time providing an excellent grounding for life in a commercial law firm. In third year I applied and was selected for William Fry's Summer Internship Programme and I was placed in the Commercial Litigation Department. It was an exciting time to work with the department as it was dealing with a number of high profile cases and it was a hugely rewarding experience. After the Internship I was offered a Traineeship with the Firm which I was delighted to accept.

I sat my FE-1's in 2016 while coaching tennis in my local club in the months between sittings. Following my FE-1's I spent two months travelling Australia and the Middle East prior to joining the Firm in January 2017 when I began my first rotation in the Insurance Department.

Typical tasks for Trainees in the Insurance Department include assisting large insurance or reinsurance undertakings in receiving Central Bank authorisation and everything that entails, researching and answering client queries, attending client meetings and much more. The level of responsibility entrusted in you and the variety of tasks which you are faced with each day facilitates both professional and personal growth and makes you feel like a valued member of the team. Everyone is willing to share their knowledge and expertise explaining not just what your task is but why you are doing it and how it fits in to the overall project. The amount of interaction and facetime given to Trainees by experienced Partners has been an outstanding feature of my time as a Trainee with William Fry.

William Fry has also been great in terms of organising social events and sporting activities giving us plenty of opportunities to get to know our colleagues in a less formal setting outside of the office. In the short time that I have been here there have been numerous Trainee nights out such as the summer barbeque, tag rugby tournaments, golf outings, fundraising marathons, a law firm football league and a trip to Richmond where we will be competing against English and Welsh law firms in a rugby sevens tournament.

Overall my experience with William Fry to date has been overwhelmingly positive.

"The level of responsibility entrusted in you and the variety of tasks which you are faced with each day facilitates both professional and personal growth and make you feel like a valued member of the team."
