Oil & Gas

Our team has experience in both the upstream and downstream aspects of the Oil and Gas Sectors.  While the exploration market in Ireland is small, we have worked with clients on licensing, regulatory and compliance issues and key commercial farm in, exploration and production arrangements.  We have acted on the disposal of producing gas fields.

We advised ConocoPhillips, a long-standing client, on issues relating to its ownership, development and operation of Ireland’s only oil refinery and major oil storage depot.

We have assisted our large industrial clients in structuring and negotiating their oil shipment and supply contracts and have advised those clients as to the applicable NORA obligations.

We act for gas suppliers to the power generation, I&C and domestic sectors.  We have worked with those clients developing innovative product offerings, including tolling contracts, and end user terms and conditions.  We have assisted our LDM clients in negotiating flexible NBP and IBP supply contracts.

We are and have been active participants in the development of the Gas Code and advise clients on the issues posed for gas purchasing and trading by the electricity market.

We have advised on biofuels and the opportunities for market participants as we transition to a low carbon economy.  We have also advised on one of the first LNG contracts entered into in the Irish market.

Key projects and clients we have worked on and with in recent years include:

Aughinish Alumina Limited in relation to all its activities undertaken in Ireland, including: the procurement, construction and creation of its 160MW CHP plant; its significant gas supply arrangements; its carbon hedging and trading arrangements; and in relation to one of the largest global energy and commodities transactions where Rusal acquired the alumina assets of Glencore International.

Keelings in relation to its CHP plant with associated carbon capture facilities.

ConocoPhillips on providing a serviced site to Bord Gáis on which to construct a 440MW gas fired CCGT plant at Whitegate, Co. Cork.
