Matthew is a Partner in William Fry’s Banking & Finance Group and Head of Structured Finance & Securitisation and Debt Capital Markets. He advises on structured finance, securitisation, capital markets and derivative transactions as well as general finance and banking matters.

Prior to joining William Fry, Matthew was a Partner in the Structured Finance and Capital Markets Group of Clifford Chance for close to 14 years and a Partner in the Finance Group of Sidley Austin London for three years. Over the course of his 20 year career with Clifford Chance he lived and worked in London, Tokyo, Abu Dhabi and Dubai.  

Matthew’s skills have been recognised in Chambers, Legal 500 and Euromoney’s Guide to the World’s Leading Capital Markets Lawyers.

Recent experience highlights include advising:

  • LocalTapiola Finance on its debut ABS transaction backed by a portfolio of EUR592m of Finnish auto loans.
  • TowerBrook on the establishment of a s.110 note issuance structure to fund Precis Capital's UK property development financing platform.
  • Coca-Cola European Partners on the issuance of EUR3.25bn of notes through its Irish financing entity
  • Auxmoney, a digital peer-to-peer lending platform for consumer credit in Europe, on its debut securitisation of consumer loans and the issuance of social bonds listed on the ESG segment of Euronext Dublin.

Experience highlights prior to joining William Fry include advising:

  • Bank of Cyprus on the bail-in of depositors and financing matters following the Troika led bail-out of Cyprus. Finance Team of the Year at The Lawyer Awards 2015.
  • General Authority of Civil Aviation as issuer of the first sovereign guaranteed sukuk in Saudi Arabia. IFLR Middle East Debt and Equity-Linked Deal of the Year 2012.
  • Deutsche Bank, Barclays, BNP Paribas and Morgan Stanley as arranger of repackaging, securitisation and structured finance transactions in the UK and Europe.
  • Citibank, HSBC and Morgan Stanley on the establishment of EMTN programmes in Japan, Europe and the Middle East.
